The establishment of Younts Wine Farm is rich in history and family tradition. As a child, Tina Younts spent many years helping her family raise tobacco on the land that now supports Younts Wine Farm. Years later, she found herself living in the old farmhouse where she was raised. In the 1980s, Tina and her husband, Bruce, took a trip to Europe where they were exposed to the culture of wine; they returned with an idea.
After lots of daydreaming, Tina and Bruce decided they wanted to plant a vineyard and use their land rather than see it overgrown. The Younts’ ultimate goal was to create a family business that would remain in the family for years to come. The first Chardonnay vine was planted in the spring of 1996. In the years following, different varietals were planted one by one in acre blocks until there was no room left to plant.
In its early stages, Younts Wine Farm sold its grapes to surrounding wineries in North Carolina. After years of selling post harvest, the Younts’ decided to venture into winemaking. During the construction of their small garagiste style winery, they enlisted help from local custom crush facilities.
Now, the production process takes place at Younts Wine Farm from harvest to bottling. The vineyard is currently managed by Tina and Bruce's youngest son, Eric Younts, who is currently studying Viticulture and Enology at Surry Community College. While sales began at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, today, Younts Wine can be purchased online and at Daily Basket of Germanton, NC.
